Gnome: moving Windows past the top of screen

Hi folks,

I'm using Gnome on RedHat AS4 on HP Itanium and I want to move Windows past the top of the screen. The old Gnome on HP-UX/sawfish was able to do this, but with Gnome on RedHat the window refuses to move past the top of the screen, i.e. the window title decoration is always visible (unless I toggle full screen mode), but for instance Thunderbird always shows the menu bar.

It is possible to move a window past the left side of the screen which is great. But I also want to move portions of the winodw past the top and bottom of the screen and this was possible with an older version so I guess it is just some kind of setting somewhere.

Really helpful answers will as always be generously rewarded with points!

I am using Xvnc on HP-UX as my X server but that doesn't make a difference because using the same X server with Gnome on HP-UX worked as described above.

Thanks, Christian

Shalom,

You might wish to try KDE. I recall what you are talking about but see no way to make it happen with gnome.

Re: Gnome: moving Windows past the top of screen

the problem probably lies with metacity, if it worked with sawfish it will probably still work when using that window manager.

so my suggestion is, use sawfish as a WM instead of the default metacity.
