HA Clustering

Hello campers

Here's a beautifully open question
I'm trying to get my head around HA Clustering within the HP-UX environment

I'm very much the learner so any suggestions about suitable documents, links and/or software packages would be appreciated

Re: HA Clustering

I suppose the obvious answer has to be Service Guard.

Searching the forums for this can tell you far more than I can, although from my experince, we have 3 clusters set up, and all of them are very stable (touch wood), and simple to monitor. I hear that the HP course for SG is invaluable (not having taken it myself, I can't offer a personal opinion).

Re: HA Clustering

Yes, the HP SG class is very good and includes hands on to cluster simple applications, nfs, etc. Basically, SG comes down providing HA and failover with redundant hardware, shared LVM structures, Cluster daemons, cluster commands, and customizable SG scripts.

SG is really a failover mechanism and does not currently provide load sharing or real-time fault-tolerence. I've read that HP intends to integrate some true clustering technologies that they acquired from Compaq (DEC). Good luck!
