Hardware Mirror

I have a 2 node cluster with OracleRac11:


Model -> rx6600
O.S. -> 11iv3
SG -> A.11.19.00

This is a productive system. I have note today that my internal disks have no mirror:

Both disks looks like boot disks, but this one is not mirrored.

The output of

# ioscan -m dsf

would be helpful now.

Shalom,

I am nearly 100% certain this server ships with hardware mirroring capability.

The best course of action in this case is to use the onboard utilities and hardware mirroring.

The process above to lead you to know which disk to use is important, because you do not want to step on any of your current data.

It is very important before you begin to get a good make_net_recovery or make_tape_recovery

Since this is a productive and production system, precautions are a must.

Hardware mirror however is going to require some downtime. It is better because the RAID controller has its own CPU and the work of keeping the disks synced does not require CPU time.

So best course is to do the hardware mirror, next best is a software mirror, knowing this is not the best option from the standpoint of performance.

One last question. If I want to do the mirror by hardware ( in a stop production scenario ).

Is that possible or I need to format the disks ?.
