Hi
Did you configure the printer using HP JetDirect Printer Installer for Unix?

Please provide the Printer type.

Re: How to add a remote printer in Hp unix

The printer is configured from SAM, printer model is HP Deskjet 5600, this printer was working previously in the same way, but not now,

Is ther any diff between connecting printer either to USB or parallel port at windows pc?(while using as a remote in Hp unix)
Because this printer has both ports.
Thanks

Re: How to add a remote printer in Hp unix

not sure if USB printers are supported

The HP JetDirect software is only for the HP range of standalone print servers. If the printer is connected to a Windows Server you need to add it as a remote printer not a network printer,if it`s a direct connection
you may try "hppi" interface

See if the following help:

****************************************
1. Check for any ongoing print job:
#> /usr/bin/lpstat -u
#> /usr/bin/lpstat -o

Cancel print job if necessary:
#> /usr/bin/cancel

2. Stop the LP spooler:
#> /usr/sbin/lpshut

3. Confirm the following line is not commented out in /etc/inetd.conf
printer stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/rlpdaemon rlpdaemon -i

4. Confirm the following line is not commented out in /etc/services
printer 515/tcp spooler #remote print spooling

5. Use the following command to add the print queue:
#> /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p -v /dev/null -mrmodel -orm -orp -ocmrcmodel -osmrsmodel_no -ob3
#> /usr/sbin/accept
#> /usr/bin/enable
#> /usr/bin/lpstat -s | grep

6. Restart the LP spooler:
#> /usr/sbin/lpsched

7. (Optional) Test the print queue as following:
#> lp -d /etc/hosts
#> lpstat -t

Thanks

Re: How to add a remote printer in Hp unix

Hi,

At WINTEL side:
Ensure taht you have installed inside of "Other print services and file..." option the component "Unix print services".
Also you must activate the service "TCP/IP Print Service".
Create a shared printer using . Uses a generic/dumb print driver from Windows.

At HP-UX side:
I suggest you that defines an entry into /etc/hosts file:

Then via SAM define a remote printer, I also suggest you that your local printer name, remote printer name and remote server same are the same used into hosts file(). Please do not forget check the BSD box.

When you execute the lpstat you must see a special command output.

Rgds.

Re: How to add a remote printer in Hp unix

A Printer hosted on WINDOWS does not matter if it is USB or Centronics (aka Parallel) or even JetDirect(or some native network driver) connected.

What is important is to ensure TCP/IP Printing ir UNIX Printing services is enabled/active.

On WIndows XP - go to Controller Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components and enable "Other Network File and Print Services".

Cheers.
