Re: how to restore ignite image from PA-RISC super dome to RP4440

Shalom,

Boot the system into logical volume mode.

hpux -lm

Set up a swap area and configure /etc/fstab to mount it.

I think however the bad news is a superdome is a cell based system and is so different from an rp4440 that a simple image recovery will not work.

Golden image might work.

On the client

Configuring an Ignite server to recognize an image.

Good Luck and let me know how it turns out.

Re: how to restore ignite image from PA-RISC super dome to RP4440

Hi,
the SD happens to be the Biggest Cell -based system so there is a huge difference in the HArdware platform difference with that if rp4440.

As steven suggests you can try with the Golden Image or you can try restoring the Ignite From an identical or as close as similar system like another rp4440 ,rp3XXX etc.
The ideal should be an at least rp4440.

Re: how to restore ignite image from PA-RISC super dome to RP4440

Hi

never happened to do such a big cross-hardware ignite restore.
Well try taking another attempt and please choose disk at the ignite install in teh advanced mode properly configuring the root disks and explicitly specifying the swap area.
i hope you are tyring the make_tape_recovery right?
also can check what is the current FW lwvwl of rp4440;; what is the OS Release ; you have the ignite image as consisting of the root VG only; and also what is the HDDs like on SD and the rp4400 , are they configured as direct SCSI HDD or on RAID Controllers,

Please give another attempt of making and restoring the backup.

perhaps cant say with surity of the success chances.

Re: how to restore ignite image from PA-RISC super dome to RP4440

Shalom,

Due to hardware differences only a Golden image has a chance of success, as it has less hardware dependence than make_net_recovery or make_tape_recovery images.

No, I did not expect the hpux -lm to work, but wished to be sure you had tried.

Re: how to restore ignite image from PA-RISC super dome to RP4440

Hi,

There is an option to select while restoring the ignite image to a different hardware, It comes somewhere in the window where we are doing all LVM changes. Iam not remembering the exact location ( Bad bad memory...!!!). Plzz have a deep look in to that window, if you are planning to restore the image again.

Re: how to restore ignite image from PA-RISC super dome to RP4440

The issue appears to be swap space, not the kernel or other things.

" panic: swapconf - no primary swap space configured"

When doing the restore, make sure you have /dev/vg00/lvol2, or some other LV in VG00 configured to be SWAP. You MUST have some SWAP space configured in VG00 for the system to use during the boot process.

Re: how to restore ignite image from PA-RISC super dome to RP4440

Well i would like for this to as per suggestions of SEP.

If you need help in configuring and creating the Golden image and panning a recovery then let know.
Configure on one the servers in the network an Ignite server.
and make this to hold an ignite server.
