HP-UX 11.00 took long time to boot and performance

Hello,

I've recently been working with this very old HP UX server and im not to familiar with the Unix operating system.
Hopefully someone here can help me out or point me in the right direction to troubleshoot the problem...
We using the server for application (form & report server 6i). We have other server for database Oracle 9i.
Usually the boot was done in 20 minutes and I was able to telnet into the system and start the apache and reports then the application was work fine.
Since last month the performance of this HP-UX become very bad with many latency in the application and sometime hang or freeze and need to reboot....and when reboot took almost 4h or more hours to boot.

below are some information related to this server:

There is something wrong in the SCSI system, either a bad component or a bad disk.

Consider to start here:

Re: HP-UX 11.00 took long time to boot and performance

You have disk failures.
In addition, your system may never boot up again. lvlnboot shows corrupted boot areas on both disks:

lvlnboot: LIF information corrupt or not present on "/dev/dsk/c5t2d0".
lvlnboot: LIF information corrupt or not present on "/dev/dsk/c5t3d0".

You'll need to call HPE  for a hardware service call.
If you don't have anyone familiar with HP-UX, you'll need see if HPE can also provide consulting to get the new disks configured for your system and fix any other problems.

Re: HP-UX 11.00 took long time to boot and performance

Hi Hassel,

I think the boot have mirror in  /dev/vg00/lvol1

/dev/dsk/c1t2d0 (0/0/1/1.2.0) -- Boot Disk
/dev/dsk/c2t2d0 (0/0/2/0.2.0) -- Boot Disk

The corrupted boot areas on other disks is:

/dev/dsk/c5t2d0 (0/7/0/0.2.0) -- Boot Disk
/dev/dsk/c5t3d0 (0/7/0/0.3.0) -- Boot Disk

How can i sort this boot disk since i have mirror in other disk ???

Re: HP-UX 11.00 took long time to boot and performance

Based on the output from lvlnboot, you have what appears to be a bootable disk set:

/dev/dsk/c1t2d0 (0/0/1/1.2.0) -- Boot Disk
/dev/dsk/c2t2d0 (0/0/2/0.2.0) -- Boot Disk

You also have two disks that were partially configured, probably by mistake):

/dev/dsk/c1t2d0 (0/0/1/1.2.0) -- Boot Disk
/dev/dsk/c2t2d0 (0/0/2/0.2.0) -- Boot Disk

But as mentioned before, the SCSI lbolt/timeout errors are disk failures that must be fixed. You'll a service call from HPE to repair the issues.
