HP-UX on Itanium servers

I'm an administrator of an HP9000 system and we are thinking about migrating our system to Itanium servers.
At the moment, we have a non HP-UX Itanium server that is not being used, and we were thinking about using it to install HP-UX OS, Itanium version of course. My question is: is it possible to install the OS (f.e. HP-UX 11.31) on a Itanium machine other than Integrity Servers from HP?

No. You cannot install HP-UX on non HP integrity servers.

No. HP-UX is hardware specific. It will not install on Itanium processors from IBM for example.

This should not be a surprise. HP-UX for PA-RISC would not install on on HP hardware.

More correctly, you can only install HP-UX on Integrity or PA-RISC.

Integrity server uses itanium chip, so integrity is "same" with itanium. YOu can not install HP-UX on non itanium server

If that is an Itanium system from either Dell or IBM, they would likely be so old as to not give you a good feel for what an Integrity system can do anyway, even if HP-UX were supported or even worked on them.

Hi,

No you can not install of PA-RISC version. of OS into Itanium or Itanium version. of OS into PA-RISC vise-versa.

You can install Windows, Linux into Itanium Hardware.

Weren't there SGI? or another company building supercomputers with Itanium (reconned II) chips?

I don't know if you are legally allowed to do so, like MacOSX cannot legally be installed on white box pc's (even though it works).

Secondly, nothing is know about what check hpux does in hardware before it boots, could be that it requires some kind of this or that, which is normally not found in other itanium boxes.

Other then that, if all the hardware (controllers etc) are supported by hpux, i don't see a reason why it shouldn't work.
