HPUX 11.11 (v1) and HPUX 11.23 (v2) on N4000-44, N4000-55, N4000-75 and K580

I found that following servers (N4000-44, N4000-55, N4000-75 and K580) EOSL has been extended to 31-Dec-2012. Currently at our data center these are running HPUX 11.11, now is it possible to retain same O/S till 2012? Means does HPUX 11.11 will be supported on these boxes till 31-Dec-2012?

Incase upgrad needed (lets say HPUX 11.23) will it be supported till H/W reaches EOSL (31-Dec-2012)?

Any links talks about EOSL of O/S?

This says 11.11 and 11.23 are supported until 31-December-2013.

Dear Dennis,

It is good to see that 11.11 and 11.23 are supported until 31-December-2013. But I was concern if I can upgrade O/S from 11.11 to 11.23 on same H/W? Are these models (N4000-44, N4000-55, N4000-75 and K580) compatible with 11.23 (V2). I could see many of other RISC macines are compatible with 11.23.

If compatible, does HP supports to upgrade O/S without buying new Hardware?

Shalom,

To your second question:

1) You should not use upgrade-ux it is not reliable.
2) The K580 is if my memory serves me not supported for 11.23 HP-UX in spite of being 64 bit capable. It may install but HP support won't help you if things go badly after that.

All the n-classes (aka rp7400) are supported with 11.23.

The K may work, but isn't supported.

Hope this helps!

Hi:

The K-class is *not* supported on 11.23:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-1978/ch02s04.html

Your N-class will run 11.23.

In my opinion, if you wish to migrate from 11.11 to 11.23 you are much more likely to accomplish a clean installation if you cold-install 11.23 rather than upgrade from 11.11 to 11.23.

Regards!

Sorry, forgot an important fact.

Since there is no HVD SCSI support in 11.23 - you will have a prolem with the K, because all the disks are likely HVD SCSI. Let it run on 11.11 ;-)

Hope this helps!

Well, If I do cold install rather than upgrade (to avoid problem), will HP provide support during install? I'm ok to not upgrade/migrate K580 to 11.23.

What do you mean "support"?
Other than pointing you to documents on how to cold-install and copy your files over, you are on your own. Unless you want to pay extra for consulting?

Thanks for clarifying daubts. Please provide the reference (url) supporting cold-install. We have many N-class server which need migration from 11.11 to 11.23.

Also, I beleive in case of cold-install we will never be able to undo the job to come back to 11.11. Any idea to support undo migration?
