HPUX IA 11.31 running Oracle 11.1.0.7 & 10.2.0.4

We have Oracle 11.1.0.7 and 10.2.0.4 installed on an HP Itanium running HPUX 11.31. Oracle installs fine and all the recommended patches/patchsets/kernel parameters have been applied. However, in both Oracle environments extension of datafiles fails. If all datafiles are created such that every object can fit in the datafile with no extending, no errors occur. When using dbca (database creation assistant) the database creation fails when creating objects in SYSTEM or SYSAUX tablespaces. Both oracle environments generate the same errors тАЬunable to extend X by X in tablespace X.тАЭ
The datafiles are autoextend with maxsize either very large or unlimited. There is plenty of disk space on the volume where the datafiles reside.
At first look I thought this was an Oracle issues but with both Oracle 11&10g running getting the same errors I am inclined to think that this is something underneath Oracle that is failing.

Can you send file system details? What are the size of data files?

How are your datafiles stored on disk ?
-> Filesystem : Are largefiles enabled ?
-> ASM ?

How big are your datafiles ? I have learned there is no such thing as an unlimited datafile. Oracel limits the datafile to 32GB if you use the default 8K block size.

Thanks for you quick reponses. The issue has been resolved. It came down to an OS patch for Veritas of which my SA was unaware was even installed on the server.

PHKL_39131: 11.31 VRTS 5.0 GARP2 VRTSvxfx Kernel Patch. The PHKL_39131 patch (superseded by PHKL_39773) was not listed in the install docs.
