Installing Linux Enterprise 4 - Proliant DL 380 G4

Hi.

Did someone of here have documentation or the step by step to configure this OS?
The CD that came with the server only support W & N.

Use the red hat installation cd only. If you don't see the disks during installation, download the storage/disk controller driver from the support page. Follow the instructions to create the driver disk.

Hi

Please use the latest update cd for Redhat AS 4.0 as the default cd might not recognise the array controller. else you would need to download the modules for the array controller.

Best would be to have the latest update cd for RHAS 4.0

In general, "RHEL Installation Manual" (http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/x8664-multi-install-guide/)is a good start point.

You can see HP manual for Linux on Proliants here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00223285/c00223285.pdf

Re: Installing Linux Enterprise 4 - Proliant DL 380 G4

Once you have the correct controller driver disk(s), start the install with "linux dd" and insert the disk(s) when prompted. You will be able to tell if the drivers work when you move on to the next section "Paritioning". You should now see a single large device e.g "/dev/sda". Some controllers also need you to stop at the "Congratulations screen" and press Ctrl-Alt-F2 to access a shell, mount a driver floppy, then run a corrective script before you reboot.

Once these steps have been completed then you should not see any other differences except that you cannot update the kernel unless you have the correct version of any binary only drivers, and this can be a real pain!

It also helps to have the most current smartstart CD for proliants.

Hello,

RHEL4Update2 CD or installation media/source are necessary to deploy on DL380G4. no Smartstart CD or linux dd requried.
just for fun
