Re: kernel panic when deataching cdrom

Hector,
welcome to the ITRC forums !
Did you detach the CD whilst the system was running? I hope you waited until shut down.
To remove properly, attach the CD, boot up and then remove the CD from the system as a device (reverse of what you did to get the system to recognise the drive), so the kernel is notified that now there is no CD. Then you can reboot without problem.

Also, as it is your first post:

Re: kernel panic when deataching cdrom

Hi Peter.

i deatached with the system halted.

now i connect it, unmount the CD-ROM halt system, remove the CD-ROM physically, restart the server and kernel panic.

thanks

Re: kernel panic when deataching cdrom

when i reboot without the CD:

end_request: I/O error, dev 03:03 (hda), sector 0,2,4,6
mkrootdev: label / not found
mounting root filesystem
mount: error 2 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/ininitrd) failed: 2
umount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 224k freed
kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel
