Re: Linux Install Problem

Linux Install Problem

We bought a HP PROLIANT ML150 G2 SERVER and we tried to install Linux Fedora Core 3 using the driver that comes into the CD drivers for Linux RH Enterprise 4 (we used the driver aar81xx added from the disk). But it doesnтАЩt add any device to the SATA and RAID system. We downloaded other drivers from Internet and HP site but no one works.

Later we used a Debian Sarge and it found the HD and installed it but when it reboots didnтАЩt find the boot sector.

Re: Linux Install Problem

Hi,

Next monday (20th) Fedora Core 5 will be released. Maybe it's worth waiting one weekend with the installation. I don't know yet wheter SATA is fully supported on this release.

Maybe the followink will help you out:

Re: Linux Install Problem

I know that linux works with sata drives, and also know that BIOS RAID with SATA drives are not supported by Linux (last time I checked) because is not a true hardware raid. Your option is to use sata with software raid.

Re: Linux Install Problem

ML150G2 SATA controller is supported with RHEL, Suse Enterprise Linux and Mandriva.
You cannot use RHEL4 drivers with Fedora, but you can use CentOS4 if you don't want to pay for RHEL.
these threads will be useful too:

Re: Linux Install Problem

These kinds of RAID device are not supported by the native Linux kernel as the manufacturers have so far refused to release the drive source.

This means that you cannot rebuild the kernel as the system refuses to boot as it cannot relink the missing source code for the driver.

You should contact HP-UX support and they will supply you a binary driver dik that will be version specific. Once you have this disk(s) build the system using "linux dd" then at the "Congratulations" screen swtch to a shell window by pressing Ctrl-F2.

Mount the disk as directed and run the fix script. Then hit Alt-F7 to return to the graphical installer and complete the installation.
