mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

hello team HP-UX,

it appears that '/usr/sbin/ioscan -funC disk' on my itanium rx2660 server does not correctly report the DVD-ROM.

There is no entry with ROM or DV or TEAC, etc. as is reported on various websites.

any ideas on this one?

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

how about posting ioscan -fk output as an attachment?

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

No, the device description doesn't contain any of those strings for a USB DVD (which it is on a rx2660).

Here's the DVD ROM on my rx2660:

#ioscan -funC disk
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
===============================================================================
disk 11 0/0/2/1.0.16 UsbScsiAdaptor CLAIMED DEVICE USB SCSI Stack Adaptor
/dev/deviceFileSystem/Usb/MassStorage/dsk/disk@hp-1008+294=A60020000001
/dev/deviceFileSystem/Usb/MassStorage/rdsk/disk@hp-1008+294=A60020000001

Yes... those really are the device file names.

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

Here is the output for a SCSI attached DVD.
# ioscan -kfnC disk
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
============================================================================
disk 0 0/0/3/0.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DV-28E-N
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

If you have some different HW it would be helpfull to specify what you think you have and the version of OS. And, as mentioned, share with us the output of ioscan -kfn so we can help instead of guess.

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

Duncans device file is from 11.31, Tims is from 11.23.

Same hardware, the OS makes the difference.

Hope this helps!

No, different hardware - mine was a USB DVD-ROM like the one on nicholas's system... Tim's was a SCSI DVD-ROM

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

Perhaps though it is "Shimmer" afterall (*)? IIRC a new install of 11.31 will have rather different device names than 11.23 from the new IO subsystem.

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

Right, but this is the same hardware with 11.23:

disk 0 0/0/2/1.0.16.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DV-28E-N
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

Hope this helps!

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

Did anyone get an answer for this?

disk 7 0/0/2/1.0.16 UsbScsiAdaptor CLAIMED DEVICE OO Device Driver
/dev/deviceFileSystem/Usb/MassStorage/dsk/disk@hp-1008+294=A60020000001

Re: mounting DVD on itanium rx2660

he answer is already above - these **are** the device files.

Hint:

create a more easy to use softlink, e.g. /dev/cdrom

Hope this helps!
