Downloaded and installed nedit 5.5 binaries from the HPUX porting site.
When I launch nedit, it opens for a specond then closes with a bus error and core dumps.
Can someone tell me what the problem is?

Re: nedit gives bus error and core dumps
The nedit binaries compiled from the HPUX porting site are compiled on PA-RISC 2.0. Your J5600 has PA-RISC 1.2 based chips.

Re: nedit gives bus error and core dumps
I guess your 11i is 11iv1 (11.11) - did you download this one:
http://hpux.asknet.de/ftp/hpux/Editors/nedit-5.5/nedit-5.5-hppa-11.11.depot.gz
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: nedit gives bus error and core dumps
Nothing in the readme file about compatibility with HPUX, only note for HPUX has to do with setting of colors.
I'm sure you grabbed the right version. 11.23 or 11.31?
I guess I would double check that.
Looking at the tested platforms your's isn't listed. But I don't know that if thats a big deal.
The only note I found in the installation is this:
Notes:
* This is a dying breed - a Motif application ! Unfortunately, HP do not ship
X11R6 or Motif 2.1 includes as standard with HP-UX 11.X - you must
install the C/C++ Developer's Bundle to get them.
I'm guessing thats just at build time that that takes into effect?
Any chance you can try to compile yourself to make sure all is good? Only two buildtime deps.

Solutionhttp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/editors/nedit/NEdit/v5_5/executables/
Maybe there is a version compiled for your CPU.
Test this with "file" command - should return
PA-RISC1.1 shared executable
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: nedit gives bus error and core dumps
http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/editors/nedit/NEdit/v5_5/executables
Ran files on nedit which reported PA-RISC1.1
Nedit now works. I guess there is a difference as the 5.5 from the hpux porting archives would not run.

Re: nedit gives bus error and core dumps
Did you try this?
Anyway, if nedit works now, it's OK.
BTW, you'll probably find "jedit" usefull too.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

You wouldn't be able to get a bus error if you have the wrong architecture.
>Dave: HP do not ship X11R6 or Motif 2.1 includes as standard with HP-UX 11.X - you must install the C/C++ Developer's Bundle to get them.
This isn't true. You can download them. See Steven's link here:
