Query regarding clock frequency on HPUX Itanium systems

Hi All,

I need some information about the clock speed and frequency. In SAM
"
Processors:
Active: 4
Total: 4
Clock Frequency: 399 MHz ,1595 MHz(Core Freq.)
"
Please let me know what is the difference between core frequency Reported as 1595 MHz and Clock frequency reported as 399 MHz.

One more thing, machinfo give the core frequency ( 1595 MHz) where as other tools like glance or OVPA are reporting the it as 399 MHz.

Thanks in advance...

Best Regards

Praveen

Re: Query regarding clock frequency on HPUX Itanium systems

Hi,

AFAIR this is a wrong information fixed by a patch.

Consider to install the latest patch bundles from ITRC.

I cannot tell you more, because I don't know if you run 11.23 or 11.31 (probably it is 11.23).

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hi Praveen:

It is interesting to note that the clock value if 1/4 the core frequency. Given that you have 4 processors, I think there is an intentional relationship being made here.

JAGag24810) CPU clock frequency displayed by SAM
can differ from what is displayed by the
command /usr/contrib/bin/machinfo (currently
available on Integrity Servers only). A Dual-
core Itanium 2 based machine has two
frequencies - ITC frequency
and Core frequency. Machinfo (1) was patched in
PHCO_33751 to display the Core frequency
instead of the ITC frequency whereas SAM was
displaying only the ITC frequency.

and so on ...

Re: Query regarding clock frequency on HPUX Itanium systems

Shalom,

I definitely recommend patching for this issue. Note that the patch doesn't fix a performance issue, just a display issue.

Also note that the clock speeds on Itanium processors have no relationship to that of the processors distant cousins in the wintel world.

Totally different architecture.
