Re: "lights out" and linux
Now, if your server will have a kernel panic - you can reboot it from home. :)
You can even do installation/reinstallation from remote.
A was mentioned in above reply: if graphic environment is used-another license is required.

Re: "lights out" and linux
We're using the ilo lights out card that ships with DL class HP servers.
Many of these are deployed with Linux. We have had some issues with the Red Hat Cluster Suite and iLo but are in general pleased with the overall performance of these cards/systems.

Re: "lights out" and linux
yes, it's certainly possible. The display redirection needs no OS support when running in text mode, and the virtual serial port (if available) looks like a standard serial port, so you can set up a normal getty process for it.
If your iLO has the virtual serial port function, I'd recommend using it: since Linux does not use BIOS output routines, the iLO needs to grab the console output from the video memory, which can at some times cause garbage characters on screen if the display is updating fast. The virtual serial port does not have this problem.
However, as there seems to be no hprsm driver package for Slackware, you must reboot the server each time you need to _configure_ iLO.
