RHEnterprise 4 with a NetRaid 3si controller

Hi

I have a HP NetServer LH3r that has a NetRaid 3si RAID controller installed in a PCI slot. I've used this machine to run Windows Server and Fedora 2. Now I am trying to install RedHat Enterprise 4 - but RHE4 does not seem to recognize my 3si controller. The install does try a couple of drivers - a Symbios driver, a MegaRaid driver and an Intel driver - but all seem to fail to allow RHE to recognize the drives.

Any suggestions or ideas, please.

Thank you in advance.
Robert.

Re: RHEnterprise 4 with a NetRaid 3si controller

I have been startled by Red Hat dropping support for RAID cards. I've run into the same situation with the Rocketraid 133 card. Its a great card with excellent support on many versions of Windows.

Red Hat has simply dropped support for it in its kernel. Thus far my complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

In future installations I'm going to use a Raid Card on Red Hat's support list, even though that will cost me twice as much.

I fear you are in the same situation as I.

Re: RHEnterprise 4 with a NetRaid 3si controller

Hrm. I've not tried RHES4..

Does it have both 'megaraid' and 'megaraid2' drivers available?

The 3si will be the original 'megaraid' driver.

Re: RHEnterprise 4 with a NetRaid 3si controller

Hi and thanks for the responses.

In answer to your question Stuart - I think RHE4 has both the megaraid and megaraid2, but I'm not positive. Could you advise me on how to check and how to force the install to use the earlier version.

Thank you
Robert.

Re: RHEnterprise 4 with a NetRaid 3si controller

May be RH dropped support for this card to reduce the size of the boot installer image (initrd and kernel).

try using driver disk image to load ur specific driver. RH has good document on how to create ur own driver disk image containing ur choice of drivers.

Hope this helps,

Thanks all

I found that RHE3 has the appropriate drivers and have stepped back to use that version at this time.

Thanks
Robert.
