tar: /dev/nst0: Cannot write: Input/output error

Before, i did backups and restores without problems. Nowadays, when i try make backup or restore, i have the following problem:
tar: /dev/nst0: Cannot write: Input/output error
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I already swapped my tape drive and the problem continues. But, today, i make backup or restore only with files up to 20 MB.
My drive is a HP Ultrium 1840 SAS.

Regards,

"mt -f /dev/nst0 status"?, maybe bad media?

Re: tar: /dev/nst0: Cannot write: Input/output error

Check if your device is not asking for a cleaning tape. Use a cleaning tape anyway.

If you can, try your media on another tape device.

Check also the output of dmesg.

¿What are the status of the device leds?
