tar error

Hi Admins,

I have a problem with tar file.

I have sent a tar file to my mail id thro mailx.
My cronjob will sent a tar file to mail id using uuencode and mailx.Today morning when m opening tar file m getting below error.
"Invalid archive directory"

But i can open tar file in server and view the contents

i used below command for mailing

/usr/bin/uuencode /reports/HPUNIX/Report_$DATE.tar /reports/HPUNIX/Report_$DATE.tar|/usr/bin/mailx
-m -s "HPUX CHECKLIST REPORT : $DATE" mail@id

Plz suggest on this

Can you use cksum(1) on the tarfile you originally created and then again on the one you extract from your mail?

When opening "tar" file where? How? Using
what? Actual command?

This doesn't look to me like a normal "tar"
complaint Google thinks that it might come
from WinZip. What, exactly, are you doing?

What do you see if you do a 'what' on the received file?

did you ever get a good file from mail,
and this could be just a temperory problem when some bits must have been missed.

Try sending same file again.

Windows has a "what" command?

I have a better question. What do we see if
you tell us exactly what you were doing?

Yeah, those computers never do the same thing
twice. I don't know why anyone even tries to
use them.
