Video Card & Monitor
i have installed RedHat 7.2 on a Dell GX100 (P Celeron 500Mhz, 128 Ram, Video Card: Intel 16 MB).
After install i ran Xconfigurator and it probed the right monitor (hp p1130 21inc) and intel 16 MB video card. The issue is that the desktop isn't clear, it seems moving. Maybe to let the image get clearer i have to set the refresh or i don't know what else.
I know this isn't a big problem, but after a while i work on it my eyes become tired :-)
Thanks...
Tarek

Re: Video Card & Monitor
Once you've got a non 'standard' mainsteam video card it does this kinda stuff.
You should try changing the screen resolution, either by file in XF86Config (depth) or via the Ctrl Shift +/-
Perhaps the X configurator will allow you also.

Bill

Re: Video Card & Monitor
Before i was using 1280x1024 16 bit (Depth 16), now i tried 1280 x 1024 24 bit (Depth 24), but nothing changed. I can't work on it. Do you think if i change O.S, maybe upgrading to RedHat 7.3 this problem vanish?
Where can i set the Monitor's Refresh Frequency as in windows (e.g. 85 Hertz).
Thanks again.

Re: Video Card & Monitor
Else, xf86config will do the job.
Have a nice day

Re: Video Card & Monitor
I'd have to take a look at the stderr output from "startx" to see what's going on.
To that effect, please do:
startx 2>/tmp/output.txt
And send me the "output.txt" file.
If you have a graphical login, disable it by doing
init 3
and then login as root and execute the procedure above (startx).
There's no easy vertical frequency settings in X. It depends on a number of factors, like your monitor, videomodes, etc. In general, X will try to use the "best fit" mode you have.
But again, I'd need to see the output from startx...

Paga

Re: Video Card & Monitor
After you recompile the kernel,
do you still get same error message as following?
(EE) I810(0): [dri] I810DRIScreenInit failed because of a version mismatch.
[dri] i810.o kernel module version is 1.1.0 but version 1.2 or greater is needed.
[dri] Disabling DRI.

Re: Video Card & Monitor
Before i did that, i have installed i816_6_2.rpm and this required XF86_SVGA. I put this file under /usr/X11R6/bin. Then i installed the i816_6_2.rpm and it gave me again XFree86_SVGA dependencies, so i did a
rpm -ivh i816_6_2.rpm --force --nodeps and so i installed it. After all this, i recompiled the kernel.
Thanks again, Tarek
