Cannot Delete VV when I put it out of the RCG.

Problem:

I can't delete the VV in the target array when I stop the rcopy and put it out from the RCG.

Current situation:

  • - I can delete the VV in the Source array.
  • - I can see there is a snapshot created under the VV.r in the target array when the RCG stopped.
  • - Once the snapshot getting remove, the VV.r can remove it successfully

Question:

  • What can I do to prevent automatic snapshot generation in the target array when I delete a VV that is being rcopy?

The actions I have taken to remove VV.

1. Stop rcopy.
2. Put the VV out of the RCG.
3. Start rcopy.
4. Delete VV in the source array.
5. Try to delete VV.r in the target array, but failed with warning reason "parent or child not removable".

Re: Cannot Delete VV when I put it out of the RCG.

Hi Beckham_HSD,

To prevent automatic snapshot generation in the target array when deleting a virtual volume that is being replicated through Remote Copy, you can follow these steps:

1. Stop the Remote Copy operation between the source and target arrays by suspending or halting the Remote Copy session. This will prevent any data synchronization between the arrays.

2. Remove the virtual volume from the Remote Copy Group in the source array using the appropriate command.
This will remove the virtual volume from the Remote Copy Group configuration and stop the replication process.

3. Verify that the virtual volume has been successfully removed from the Remote Copy Group in the source array.

4. Once the VV is removed from the Remote Copy Group, you can proceed to delete it from the target array without generating automatic snapshots. Ensure that the RCopy session is still suspended or halted.

5. Use the appropriate command to delete the virtual volume in the target array.
For example, you can use the "removevv" command with the "-rcopy" and "-force" options.

By following these steps, you should be able to delete the VV in the target array without triggering automatic snapshot generation.

Do get back to us, if you need further help.
