HP 3PAR Simulator iSCSI configuration? LUN performance?

Hi,
I have started HP 3PAR Simulator "HPE_3PAR_STORESERV_SIMULATOR_V3.2.2_MU4_Z7550-02628.ZIP (7.71 GB)" in my ESX lab. I am going to get performance data (IOPS, Latency, Throughput). I have a question:

1. How to create an iSCSI connection between 3PAR SIM and a Windows host?
2. How to generate any performance load on HP 3PAR SIM?
3. How to allocate data on LUNs without any protocols (iSCSI, FC)?

Hi Richter,

To answer your queries on 3PAR simulator host IOps report:

Create another Windows host in the same Workstation, install SSMC there and add the simulator 3PAR to that SSMC.

1. HPE 3PAR Simulator doesn't support hosts. But you can create a fake host in the same Vmware workstation and connect through virtual FC ports (iSCSI is not supported, only FC ports are supported).
SSMC host, the Windows host (VV to be exported to) and 3PAR simulator, all 3 must be on the same virtual network. Ensure the Windows host must be discovered in SSMC

2. In SSMC you can generate customized performance reports. (SSMC Main menu >> System Reporter >> Reports).
But, with limited diskspace of the base machine (I think 50GB), 3PAR simulator creates 96 virtual PDs. You can only simulate how to generate performance load report. But it will be nowhere close to realtime data.

3. From the Windows host you exported the LUN, you can write some data (It will be only virtual FC ports).

I have a question about upgrade firmware on the simulator. I have information"

"New OS version 3.3.1.410 is available.", but I am unable to upgrade. I do not see any button as on the real device.
I have checked using CLI check upgrade:

The system cannot proceed with an online upgrade due to the above errors.

I am unable to upgrade hard disks firmware also. 

Do you have any ideas on how to upgrade HP 3PAR to the latest firmware version 3.3.1?

Hi Richter,

There are no upgrades available for the 3PAR Simulator after version 3.2.2.612. So the upgrade is not possible.

The reason why you are getting "New OS version 3.3.1.410 is available." is:

The 3PAR simulator OS/system is a virtual 3PAR 8200 system. But the SSMC is the real application. HPE recommends all 8K series 3PAR systems to be upgraded 3.3.1.xxx version. So, your SSMC attracts that upgrade recommendation notification. But in reality, the simulator upgrade is not possible as the upgrade for 3PAR simulator OS is not available.
