HP Storeserve Deduplication ratio
Hi,
We have an HP Storeserve with SSD drives. We want to optimise the deduplication ratio for the solution. We are running Oracle on RedHat Linux. We have read the disk cluster size should be 16KB - is this the Linux Block size? How do we align the Storeserve disk cluster size with the Redhat based Oracle data?
Thanks
Andrew

Re: HP Storeserve Deduplication ratio
Bottom line with de-duplication is the ASIC where de-dup is carried out.
It has a "block size" of 16KB, any block size equal or greater (preferably multiples of 16KB) will be ok, depending on the data.
However I have heard of cases where smaller block sizes get very bad de-dupe rates.
e.g. Windows OS disk by default formats at 4KB where de-dupe is between 1.1 and 1.4
Apparently Linux ext3 has a similar "problem".
If you search HP http://3parug.com for de-dup there are some interesting reports on de-dup, both good and bad.
