Reclaim Space
Hello,
We have 2 3Par 8200 on Remote Copy . The volumes are presented to 3 Windows 2016 servers Hyper-V in Failover Clustering CSV. The are filling up and I'm losing GB every week.
I started cleaning up the CSV volumes (1To) , but despite this, I can't seem to save space on the 3Par.
On 3Par, the defragmentation task is not carried out on certain virtual volume sets?
I tried the compactcpg and freespace commands, but without success.
No defragmentation task

Re: Reclaim Space
Hi matou801,
To free up the space please try the following steps:
- Delete some unused snapshots. This may help you to reclaim some space.
- After deleting the snapshots, please compact the CPG. (Run the command тАЬcompactcpg -trimonly <name of the CPG>тАЭ)
Please use the given URL for more information on compacting CPG https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/videoDisplay?videoId=vtc00030632en_us
- You may try to change the volume type from FPVV to TPVV
- Check if you have enabled the deduplication and compression settings on the volume level.
Hope this helps.!
Regards
Anil

Re: Reclaim Space
Hi matou801,
From the above output, I could see you have 16 snapshots that are drawing space from the same CPG SSD_r1 on which the base volumes were created.
You may try to change the CPG which is allocated to snapshots to draw the space.
Please refer the below link to change the CPG allocated to Snapshots
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/videoDisplay?videoId=vtc00000989en_us
After this, please try compacting the CPG.
Hope this helps.!
Regards
Anil

Re: Reclaim Space
@AnilKT Hello Anil,
I don't have access to the video. The contract has expired with my account. Can we recover this video in another way ?
Thank you.

Hi matou801,
Please follow the below steps to assign a Copy CPG to a virtual volume on HPE SSMC
- Login to the HPE SSMC.
- Go to the Main menu.
- Click on Virtual Volumes under Block Persona.
- Select a virtual volume from the list.
- Go to the Actions menu at the top right corner. Click on тАЬEditтАЭ from the dropdown.
- On the edit volume screen, click Advanced options check box.
- Under the Protection and Additional Settings pane, click on Volume to assign the Copy CPG.
- Use the тАЬSearchтАЭ button to search for a specific CPG by name or you may select the CPG from the list.
- After making the changes, click ok to save the changes.
Hope this helps.!

Re: Reclaim Space
@AnilKT Hello,
I made the modification on a volume to test, but unfortunately no improvement, worse I lost a few additional gigabytes.
Thank you
