9000/827 H20 Nova console connection
I have just started in a new position, and the company has a 9000/827 H20 sitting idle, and I am trying to see if it will run.
My problem is, I am used to this 'sort' of harware but in the HP3000/9xx style.
So I don't know how the console connects!
I have a cable which is partnumber 5062-3074 which connects a 78 pin D type to a D9 labelled ADP, but I don't know what an ADP is, or if I can connect this to a 700 series terminal.
Can someone help with these questions...
1) What is an ADP?
2) Is 5062-3074 all I need to connect the console?
3) What is pin 70 of the 78 pin connector doing, as this has broken off!
4) How does a serial console connect to an 827?
Thanks.
Vince Martyn.

Re: 9000/827 H20 Nova console connection
Thanks for your reply, but the only info I have is the cable, and it's D9 connector has ADP moulded into the plug.
But as I said, there is a broken pin.
I have tried putting an A1703-60003 board from an MPE system into the 827. It comes up and I can get into the IPL my problem occurs when I try to boot.
I get a few messages, then a line of numbers and it seems to hang there.

Re: 9000/827 H20 Nova console connection
I have found another thread that answers some of my questions...
subject: HP 9000 E55 with A1703-60022
ADP stands for 'Active Distribution Panel'.
I need one of these to connect the console to an A1703-60022.
But now I am trying an A1703-60003 I have a mini-din serial console connector.
Should this card work ok in a hpux machine, and would swapping these boards cause boot to hang?
Best regards
Vince.

Re: 9000/827 H20 Nova console connection
ADP II -> as Mux Panel or MDP (Modem Distribution Panel)
U have to connect this particular cable from server to MUX. and from MUX u have to connect the console on port 0
U can also find some useful urls:

Re: 9000/827 H20 Nova console connection
For work I am in Burnham, to the west of Slough. Is that good or bad?
Thanks,
Vince.
