Hi the machines have different motherboards which you can see a picture of inside the left hand cover of the server. They also have different power supplies and can have different disc enclosures.

Re: about the architecture of hp9000 D260&D380

I am reaching back a little but in a nutshell.

D260 - is a two way PA-RISC 7200 120MHz with only two drives slots live in the hard drive bay. Not all of the backplane slots are live, but I can not remember the exact config.

D380 - is a PA-RISC 8000 180MHz based system, and can be single or dual processors. Its drive bay has 5 live hot swapable slots and all backplane slots are live. Rough performace numbers a dual D380 is about 4 times the dual D260.

See the docs pointed to in the 1st reply from more details.

Hope this helps.

Moreover, If you have ignite installed run:
#/opt/ignite/bin/print_manifest

print_manifest is an ignite (IUX) command that allows you to gather HW/SW inventory about your machine.
more info can be found here: http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/

If you want more detailed info you can get this tool:
http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Sysadmin/sysinfo-3.3.1/

Now if you are planing for an upgrade think about it:

There are good architecture diagrams in the book by Robert F. Sauers, "HP-UX Tuning and Performance" for these and other PA-RISC systems.
