and cell0 cannot power on,i want to know the possible cause of that.

PE cannot power on cell0,and all the nVRM cannot power.

thank you.

Re: cell board can not power on

Hi

Please send output from the ps on that cell. Check all the vrm's.

thx

Re: cell board can not power on

Hi,

I think this could be the reason:

Cell Board DIP Switches : b'10110000 <===
Clock type : unknown
Frequency Select reg : 0x7b
CPU Clock Select : System Backplane Clock @ 100 MHz
CPU PLL : Enabled
CPU VREF control : 1.5V
CPU Type : PA8600
CPU Speed Bits : 0x20
DIP switch settings are invalid <===

The DIP switch for the CPU speed settings is located on the CPU site of the cellboard in the front left corner next to DIMM 2D connector.
It's a 8-switches block but only switches 1-3 are significant for the CPU speed. The other Dip Switches may differ depending how old the cellboard is.

try setting the Dip Switches similar to the other cellboard, otherwise you may have to contact HP support and ask for help.

best regards

Stefan

Re: cell board can not power on

thank you stefan.may be you are right!

and i want to give you some details about this problem.

one night last year, the server lost all powers, and it stops working. when the power recover,i found that cell0 can not power, but fortunately, after i pull out the power cable and wait 3mins the power on the server, the cell0 can normally power.

but last month,i move the server to another room, then i power on the server, found the cell0 can not power.i try many methods, but got no result.so i seek for help here.

thank you!

but what to puzzle is that the DIP switch can make change of itself? what cause the DIP switch to change, the accident lost power?

Re: cell board can not power on

if this cell really was running before, then the dip switch setting unlikely causes the problem here (if nobody has touched it), except if we assume that the dip switch is out of order.

More likely the cell does not power on due to other problems and the strange display of dip switch settings is only a side effect.

I have no complete set of dip switch settings for all possible combinations that are available. Best is if you compare your two cellboards.

You can check if the cell powers in another slot. Also you can check for error messages ("sl", then "e" on the MP) and what happens in the activity log ("sl", then "a").

Other intersting commands to post here could be the ps on the cabinet and MP and a "de" on the PDHC controller of cell 0.

Does "pe" give you and error message ?

Re: cell board can not power on

yes,i have exchange the location of the cell board, but cell0 still can not get power.

the other cell's dip switch is like this:
Cell Board DIP Switches : b'00000101
Clock type : Piranha_pll
Frequency Select reg : 0x17
CPU Clock Select : System Backplane Clock @ 130 MHz
CPU PLL : Enabled
CPU VREF control : Ground
CPU Type : PA8700
CPU Speed Bits : 0xff
Dip switch settings are valid

when use PE to power on the fault cell,it returns nothing.

Re: cell board can not power on

Hi,

U can logging in MP LAN mode then execute the below command:-

MP>cm
MP:CM>pe then press "T"

Send the output & also send the MP logs.

Re: cell board can not power on

check if more than one fan are not working at server (check upper pci and front&rear). In some servers (74xx) don't startup cell and cabinet powerup and powerdown afterwardsif there are one overtemp alert.
