Convert n4000(a3639a/b) to rp7400(a3639c)

Hi guys,

Just need to know if its possible to upgrade the box from n class to rp7400.

currently running on
8x550mhz
16gb memory
hpux 11.00

need to migrate to
8x750mhz
16gb memory
hpux 11.00

We only want to have higher cpus as i know that highest cpu which rp7400 can cater is 750mhz but what i want to know is
1)can RP7400 cater all 8x750mhz cpus???
2)can hpux 11.00 run in rp7400 without any problem?
3)n clas running on 550 PA8600, will there be a problem if the system runs on 750mhz PA8700 as we dont want the application and database to have problem during the change of the CPU's??

thx in advance.....

Re: Convert n4000(a3639a/b) to rp7400(a3639c)

Hi HGN,

I have checked the threads b4 and none of the threads says that a RP 7400 can take up to 8x750mhz cpu...

The rp7400 can have up to 8 x 750 MHz CPUs.

see

But I doubt if you can still buy the upgrade kits.

Hope this helps!

Re: Convert n4000(a3639a/b) to rp7400(a3639c)

Depending on the original system model, you need either a systemboard or this board, processor support modules (kind of power supply for CPUs) and a core I/O card.

The problem is, you cannot adjust the serial number and model settings on the new board, because only HP can do this. This is needed to set the correct software ID.

Hope this helps!

Re: Convert n4000(a3639a/b) to rp7400(a3639c)

hi torsten...

what do u mean by the software id?Are u trying to say if i were to change the system board the mac addres will also be changed?is there any other way to settle this problem? Is it a good idea to change the whole server or just to change the system board and other parts? What would u suggest to me?The csutomer of mine would like to only change the hardware for better performance as they want to maintain the application and the OS.Only changes they want to make is the processor and memory.I dont see any problem with the memory.I need ur point of view on this....

thx...

Re: Convert n4000(a3639a/b) to rp7400(a3639c)

The MAC address is bound to the core I/O, but this is not a problem.

The software ID (shown in "uname -a") depends on the product and serial number of the server. If you have a new board, these values are probably empty, but you cannot set it, because special (and HP owned) tools are needed to do this.

The serial and model values stored on the systemboard have to match the values printed on the box.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
