D330 Hot Swap Drive A3646A

Hi,

I'm trying to add 2 A3646A 4.3GB Hot Swap Drives (4.3SE) to my D330, which already has 4 2.1DF Drives installed. All the 2.1 GB Disks get detected, but when I try to add even one of the Hot Swap Drives, The systems can not find any drives.

Attached is the output from the Search.

Thanks,
Gus

Gus,

Sounds like a SCSI mismatch. I don't think the DF drives can co-exist with the SE drives.

Re: D330 Hot Swap Drive A3646A

I would look at the systems firmware.

I have been told by my favorite hardware people that you can put 9 Gig hot swaps in my D320(close match I think).

I have 4 Gig Hot swaps in there now.

I don't think those drives have any user configurable dip switches or anything, I'm holding a 4 GB hot swap in my hand right now.

Perhaps its time to consult the system documentation.

Re: D330 Hot Swap Drive A3646A

STOP. DESIST!! DO NOT PASS GO!!! DO NOT COLLECT $200.00.

You cannot use Single-ended SCSI drives in HVD SCSI buses. You can damage controllers, drives, terminators ... .
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: D330 Hot Swap Drive A3646A

Clay is absolutely correct. The drives in the internal drive bays on the D boxes ABSOLUTELY MUST be DF drives. There is no way you SE drives will work.

Take the 4.3GB SE drives and trade them in on some 4.3GB DF drives.

If you bought them from a vendor and they told you that they would work, find a different vendor because they are absolutely incorrect.

I kind of figured that I couldnt mix and match, but did not realize that the SE would not work at all.

As always thatnks for the quick responce and awesome support.

Re: D330 Hot Swap Drive A3646A

Is it just the D330 that wont support the SE disks? Someone else had also told me that they have SE disk in their D3XX Server.

Re: D330 Hot Swap Drive A3646A

Gus,

I believe what you were told is true. Depending on the bus, you can have either SE or DF drives but not a mixture of the two.

Re: D330 Hot Swap Drive A3646A

You can certainly use SE-SCSI drives on a D3XX but not in the internal drive bays. Those are HVD SCSI. The SE-SCSI disk modules that you have can be used in a Jamaica (A3312) enclosure and connected to the SE-SCSI connector on the back of your D-box --- again also make sure that you use a SE terminator for this. The Jamaica enclosure will also accept HVD SCSI modules as well - just not on the same bus.
