Devices - connectors for UPS

Two questions:
1. Does PowerChute Plus software for HP-UX 10.X properly work on HP-UX 11.X?

2. HP 5470 has black cable with three connectors, for: console, modem and UPS.
/dev/console is device for console connector.
What device is for UPS connector?

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

Marco,
Q2. The UPS connector would go into a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) if you had one. This would be use to hook the controls for the UPS to the machine, so if you want the shut the UPS down from the machine you can.

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

I know that cable to connect UPS to the server I receive with a UPS. But I have problem what device from the server side is responsible for communication withe the UPs if I connect UPS to the UPS connector on "black cable" from the server side.
I added two devices
/dev/tty0p2 and
/dev/tty0p3.
But I still, have no communication with the UPS.

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

I instaled Powerchute Plus software.
During the instalation I should answer for the question about device to comunication with the UPS. I connected cable from the UPS to the black cable that has three connectors DB9(console, UPS, Remote) to the UPC connector. My question is: What device in the system is responsible for communication with the UPS by UPS connector on that "black cable"?.

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

Marco,
can you please clarify:
1. The UPS is powered up?
2. The power cable to the server is coming from the UPS?
3. The command cable from the UPS is connected to the server?
4. The correct software for the UPS is installed and running on the server?

The system to control the UPS is normally via the RS232 port.

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

Answears for your question is 4 times YES.
My question was:
What system device is responsible fo communication with the UPS?
.

I found out that in my serwer It is /dev/tty0p3 device.

But, I noticed that HP-UX lost conection with the UPS from time to time. I changed the speed between 1200 and 9600 b/s but It still happend. May be I should change flow control type on that port?

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

Hi,

Did you create the new device file with the insf command? If not, please check the device file and re-create it if it has difference type of the device file.

Device file example for UPS.
============================
# lssf /dev/tty0p3

asio0 card instance 0 port 3 hardwired at address 0/0/4/1 /dev/tty0p3

Note: GSP firmware revision is B.02.14 or later. Latest GSP firmware revision is B.02.20.

How to create the device file.
==============================
# insf -e -d asio0
insf: Installing special files for asio0 instance 0 address 0/0/4/1

As for the flow control and the baudrate, it depends on your UPS communication port specification. HP-UX UPS device file uses the hardware flow control.

Power Chute Plus is the power management software provided by APC. You can access their support web at the web below.

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

Marco,
in my second post I asked what data you had in /etc/ups_conf. This should be the device file for the UPS, which have now set.
Good Luck.

Re: Devices - connectors for UPS

The problem occur because Poewer chute Plus supports only HP UX 11. I testet it on HP UX 11.i
