Hardware compatibility question

Experts,

(Hopefully) a quick question:

Can I mix/match interface cards (LAN, SCSI, Fibre) between the following hardware models: RP7410, RP5470, N4000.

Also (and this is a FAR reach) - can I mix/match memory DIMMs between those systems?

The root of my question is this: We will be retiring our N4000's soon, and I'm wondering if I can harvest any "usable" parts for our RP systems. But, I'd also like to know if I can mix/match between RP systems as well (7410 and 5470) for future reference.

Thanks in advance!

Later,
Ben.

Re: Hardware compatibility question

Yes,

You can even mix memory. Although they have different model numbers the memory is the same.

Re: Hardware compatibility question

There is no simple YES/NO - it depends on every single card, because some cards are supported in a specific server/OS combination, some are not. Not all supported cards for a N4000/HP-UX 11.0 combination are supported in later systems and HP-UX 11i.

Every card family (e.g. SCSI,FC,LAN) has a support matrix on http://docs.hp.com.

T.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Hardware compatibility question

Hi,

If it is possible for you to test, one simple way is to add the cards to a host and do a fresh OS install. If the cards is supported, they should be detected and the correct drivers is added automatic at the installation process.

Re: Hardware compatibility question

take a look at http://www.partsurfer.hp.com as this should help you see which of these cards will fit in the servers

Re: Hardware compatibility question

Many thanks to you all! I will have to draw up a matrix from the websites that you've posted. Although, the idea of using a test server to install parts - and then see if the OS detects and installs drivers - seems like the easiest (NON-research) method. But, if... I... only... had that test server.

Again - thanks!

Ben.
