How to access the server console from Remote end.

We are maintaining the Hp-servers in remote and we are using ssh & Telnet to accesss the servers.

Is it possible for us to access the server console & if so how it can be...

Hi,

Yes ofcourse you can access console by various methods - this depends on the server model you are using.
The lan console or remote console can be used for this purpose.
Local lan console is nothing but a network port to which you have to assign an ip address and provide switch connectivity, then you can telnet to this ip address and login to get the console.
Remote console port can be connected to a modem to be accessed externally.
Please read the manuals and search for lan console to get more info.

The only reasonable solution is a terminal concentrator. HP has a one-channel Web console adapter, or you can connect the LAN console that is built into new servers such as the rp-series. However, neither of these are secure and should never be used for remote (outside the firewall) access. Instead, a remote terminal concentrator will handle all your Unix servers (HP, Sun, etc) as well as your network appliances such as the firewall, routers, etc.

These boxes have 4 to 32 ports which you can select from either a local console or LAN, or in some models, a backup modem connection. The LAN connection to the concentrator can be configured as ssh for security and some models will monitor all the ports at once to provide history when you connect.

These concentrators are similar to KVM port concentrators but only for serial consoles. Here are some manufacturers:

Lantronix
Logical Solutions
MRV Communications
Raritan Computer

You want very high security for consoles because the console can reset or reboot the computer and (on some models) can turn off the power. That's why a dedicated concentrator is so important.
