Re: how to add memory

When you are installing memory you need to ensure it is installed in the correct slots. Not doing so can cause issues with it not being recognised or degraded performance. The process of swapping memory is relatively easy. All you really need is a set of screwdrivers and a anti-static strap. Refer the appendix C of the attached doc for details about installing memory and which slots to install it to.
You will need to refer to the Service Manual for the HP 9000 K-Class Servers as to which slots you need to use.

Re: how to add memory

Note that memory modules must always be installed in pairs (like 2a and 2b) and these paris must be the same size in megs. The memory sticks must be in order of size (ie, 256 128 64 etc) with largest in the lowest slots. There are two slots for memory carriers in the K460, EXT0 on top and EXT1 on the bottom. If you run out of slots on the top carrier, you'll need a second memory carrier for more RAM. Once you add memory, be sure you put the metal cover back in place. It is a critical part of the the cooling path. Then watch the console as the self-test runs. It will report any problems with the memory
