Re: HP 9000 n class rp 7400 server

Hi,

Works fine with hpux 11i.

Check the manuals if you need any firmware update

Hi ramanan,

The rp7400 does support HP-UX 11.11 no problem there. Also m/c doesn't need as far as i know a firmware upgrade. However a firmware upgrade is usely a wise thing to do if you have the system availeble.

Re: HP 9000 n class rp 7400 server

hi,

yes 11.i version 1 and later version of 11i version 2 will run ok on the RP7400's.

I would recommend you update to the latest version of firmware first, depending if you have an B,or C model system.

Re: HP 9000 n class rp 7400 server

hi,

yours must be at least a B rev model to take the 550mhz cpus.

the A rev model only takes 360 and 440mhz proc.

downlod the firmware from here

http://www5.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PF_CPIW4343&context=firmware:cpu

and create a bootable dat tape, and then boot this.

or download this version for HPUx 11.0

http://www5.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PHSS_31214&context=firmware:osinit

and install this patch.

Also check the GSP firmware version as this may need updating. there is A rev and B rev versions of this also, your system could have either. There is abit more to updating this, but full instructions are in all the firmware patches.

Re: HP 9000 n class rp 7400 server

Dear Ramanan,

the steps are...

1. download the latest FW from hp site.
2. upload the same in a ftp server ( dont use a freeware ftp ! may endup in trouble )
3. login to MP of the rp7400

Execute the following:

4. MP>CM
5. MP>CM>FW ( some MP might use XU)

It would ask for the ftp server IP login details.

Proceed with that...

thats it !

With Regards,

Siva.

Re: HP 9000 n class rp 7400 server

I you have a true rp7400, it will have the part number A3639C. The "n-class" were A3639A and A3639B, but with that speed of process, it can only be the A3639B or A3639C. The last letter corresponded to the revision of the system board to support higher clock rate processors. The rp7400 could support from 550MHz to 750MHz processors.
