HP R390 server availability and cost

Hi
I am doing a server move project from East coast to West Coast in the US. There are
3-R390 servers with Auto-Raid attached. I am also exploring the possibility of buying
HP R-class 390 servers so that I can avoid a move. I have a couple of questions.
1) Do the R390 class server have sufficient processing power to run Oracle 11i (we are on 11.03).
2) I understand that R390 is eol. Any suggestions on where I can buy them. I live in Santa Clara, CA and would prefer someone local.
Thx for your time.

Re: HP R390 server availability and cost

1) Not really. They can do it, but the capacity is very limited. You will need a lot of memory on whatever you get.

2) Ebay. $300 will buy you a D380/390 type box which are very similar.

I've seen servers for sale on ebay in the Santa Clara metro area calendar.

Thx, Steve
1) So what is your recommendation for running Oracle 11i. N-class?

Re: HP R390 server availability and cost

I don't think you need anything as large as an N, unless you are going to have a large DB or lots of users.

For an entry level machine, I'd look at a used rp24xx with lots of RAM.

If you want something a little larger look at the rp54xx machines.

Either of those can be found used relatively cheap.

Re: HP R390 server availability and cost

Take a look at the rp3410 or rp3440. Those systems would be more expensive initially (a lease could help with that), but their support costs are likely be be less, and their performance much much better.
