I've got an L2000 which doesn't boot up, because it assumes that fans 0 and 1 have failed. It starts with fan 1 and the system runs until fan0 is also reported as failed. Then the machine shuts down. I can however feel that both fans are working just fine. I've been looking for solutions and found that this may be caused by a broken platform monitor card. Is there any way to be sure about this? I found hints that there was a revised version of the platform monitor that might fix those problems. If I have to hunt for a replacement part, how can I know if it's the old or the new version? Right now, all I have is the part number "A5191-60010"
thanks,
Dennis

Re: HP9000 L2000 fan failures
first what are the colours on the leds of the fans? they should be green, but do they turn orange when failing?
it could be the platform monitor board, but may also be bad seating or dirty connections and even the firmware of the L2000
what is the firmware version do you know? also it help to look at the leds on the platform card when trying to boot it.
I do not know if the fix was in the later platform monitor cards, or if yours has just failed, but here is the revision of part numbers
A5191-60010 first release
replaced by
A5191-60110/69110 which was then
replaced by
A5191-60210/69210
so you have the original one, but we have many still running with the original card in without problem.

Re: HP9000 L2000 fan failures
Fan are also "failed" if they are too slow.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP9000 L2000 fan failures
The L2000 is at Firmware Version 41.39. The GSP is: " Hardware Revision 8 Firmware Revision A.01.12 Oct 23 2002,13:53:42 "
I tried swapping the fans. Now fan0 fails first with fan1 being second. I already tried reseating all the components and cables. I don't understand this, because you can clearly here and feel that those fans are running.
I can try copying the GSP output:
Power Monitor Status:
Firmware Revision : 5
System Power state: Off Power Switch : On
Temperature : Normal Selected fan state: Normal
Power supplies | Fan

1 Normal Type 0 | Failure

Re: HP9000 L2000 fan failures
Unfortunately I don't know a way to get the current rpm or the threshold.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Solutionpart number of the fan is A5191-04002
http://partsurfer.hp.com/ShowPhoto.aspx?partnumber=A5191-04002
swapping the fans is good way to start.
I would also look at the PSU's as your last output shows PSU 2 as faulty

Re: HP9000 L2000 fan failures
The faulty power supply is easy. Plugging in the power cable helps :-)
