-- Inopportune shutdown with D390 server on HPUX10.20 --

Hello,

I have an issue with a D390 server on HPUX 10.20. It reboots inopportunely without for no reason (I think...) I have checked syslog.log file but there isn't explicit error ??? This reboot isn't logged in /etc/shutdownlog file. And no error with dmesg command.

Someone can help me ?

Thanks,

First thing, 10.20 is absolete.

Did you check power supply?? Does it generate any crash files??? Run STM on the server and check everything is OK with hardware.

Re: -- Inopportune shutdown with D390 server on HPUX10.20 --

See if a tombstone is created. (/var/tombstones/ts99). Check the timestamps WITHIN the file to see if they are relevant - the timestamp of the file doesn't necessarily mean that it is valid.

There may also be a crash dump in /var/adm/crash, however since 10.20 is desupported I suspect you won't have much luck sending this to HP!

Re: -- Inopportune shutdown with D390 server on HPUX10.20 --

Do a:

cat /var/tombstones/ts99 | egrep "Processor|Timestamp"

What is the output? The timestamps should all be within a few minutes of each other. If not then you may have a bad processor. If they are then there is probably some other issue.

In STM you can run information on the memory to see if there are excessive errors logging on your memory.

Re: -- Inopportune shutdown with D390 server on HPUX10.20 --

As a root,

swlist|grep -i stm.

If you have one, do following.
echo "selall;info;wait;infolog"|cstm > /tmp/all.log

Check all.log. this will give details about all hardware on your system.

Re: -- Inopportune shutdown with D390 server on HPUX10.20 --

There are the results:

tpfra1-root-[/]: cat /var/tombstones/ts99 | egrep "Processor|Timestamp"
----------------- Processor 0 HPMC Information ------------------
Processor Board 0
Current Diagnose Registers for Processor HPA: 0xfffa0000
tpfra1-root-[/]:

No file in /var/adm/crash directory.

echo "selall;info;wait;infolog"|cstm > /tmp/all.log FILE ATTACHED
I have this message:
1 address(es) with errors logged by memory logging daemon.

Thanks to all for your help !

Re: -- Inopportune shutdown with D390 server on HPUX10.20 --

It looks like one of your processors is getting a High Priority Machine Check (HPMC). This is a hardware issue and it should be replaced.
