Life Expectancy for PA-RISC?

I was trying to find information on how long PA-RISC is expected to be around and I discovered that HP has chosen to shuffle URL's around again.

I believe I used to look at:

Neither of these pages are there anymore. Does anyone have a current link identifying this information?

"1) HP-UX v3 is due this year and is supposedly the last PA-RISC release of HP-UX.
2) Especially at the low end, PA-RISC servers are in their last generation.
3) Support for PA-RISC is promised through 2012 or 2017. I don't know what that means for the OS release."

How long will HP continue to support HP 9000 systems?

The current generation of PA-8900 processor, was introduced in 2005, and is supported in low-end to high-end servers. All PA-8800-based servers can be easily upgraded in the same chassis to use PA-8900 processors and processor boards. The HP PA-8800 processor will be sold standalone until 2007, and the sx1000-based rp8420 and rp7420 with the PA-8900 processors will be sold until at least 2008. HP will continue to support these servers for a full five years past the last sales date of these systems. Also, please keep in mind that we will offer Itanium® systems within the same platforms so that customers can upgrade when they are ready.

Pete Gordon effectively added my two cents in.

You get more raw CPU power and more possible OS upgrades with Itanium. If you do what we did at my previous job, which was to upgrade OS when you get new hardware then HP-UX V3 being the last PA-RISC release does not matter at all.

BTW, FWIW, I'm in agreement with your opening remarks about dead URLs. It is indeed disheartening to find "critical" information moved with the "so sorry" mantra attached.

Personally, I find HP's web (as good as it is for information), counter-intuitive at times. Add insult to injury by moving links without redirection or repair and you do a disservice to both the owner and the user in my opinion!

We are in the early stages of migrating to Itanium...

We bought about 14 RP4440's this past year.

We have just ordered a couple of RX3600's for our Ignite servers.

HP must be setting new dates - as the doc is missing :)
