memory upgrade on HP N class server
I have a HP N class server on which the memory configuration is as follows:
Basic Memory Description
Module Type: MEMORY
Total Configured Memory : 4096 MB
Page Size: 4096 Bytes
Memory interleaving is supported on this machine and is ON.
Memory Board Inventory
Extender
Slot Num Configured and Slot label for each DIMM (MB)
-------- --------------------------------------------
0a 2a 1a 3a 3b 1b 2b 0b
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
EXT 0 512 512 512 512 512 512 512 512
------------------------------------------------------
System Total (MB): 4096
On this one of the 512 MB DIMMS would be replaced by a 1 GB DIMM.
What steps do we need to perform in order to do it.
many thanks in advance

Re: memory upgrade on HP N class server
I would consider to get another extender and spread all the DIMMs across them.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: memory upgrade on HP N class server
2. Replace slot 0a and 0b with new larger DIMMS
3. Startup the server

Re: memory upgrade on HP N class server
For this server DIMMs must be always installed in pairs! So you need at least 2 1GB DIMMs in slots 0a/0b.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: memory upgrade on HP N class server
The upgrade requires at least a pair of the 1 GB RAM modules and while putting them in the Slots mixingg with the 512 MB RAMS make sure that the largest of the RAMS are placed in the Lowest numbered slots , in ur case 0a and 0b
