N4000 A3639AR installed 550Mhz CPUs and show as 440Mhz

Does the A3639AR only support up to 440Mhz CPUs? I removed all 440's and replaced them with 550's and all processors register as 440's.

Please advise.

Thanks,

...Joe

I would double check that there are no 440s there. There are different revs of N class boards. On some models you have to put in an extra board for it to support more than 8 CPUs because otherwise you will have timing issues.

I know on the L series machines there is a jumper on the mother board that controls the CPU speed. I would imagine that the N machines are the same. Check hardware documentation for the jumper and have a look. I suspect that may be your problem.

Re: N4000 A3639AR installed 550Mhz CPUs and show as 440Mhz

Hi Joe,

The N4000 A3639AR only supported up to 440Mhz CPU's. The A3639BR was the first to support 550Mhz CPU's. The A3639CR support up to I think 750 Mhz.

Hi Joe,

Check and see if this could be because of the PDC firmware on the system.

Hope this helps.

Re: N4000 A3639AR installed 550Mhz CPUs and show as 440Mhz

the A version Mother motherboard only supports 360 and 440 there is a bank ofdip switches at the rear to set the clock speed if it is an A version motherboard it will have the setting etched on the motherboard next to the switches .The B version supports 36,440, and 550 again dip switches etch to indicate proper clock speed settings, the C version supports 500 - 750 and again dip switch settings although they are not etched and require ce manual for proper dip switch settings..

You definitely need the B or C models version of the system board for the 550 MHz chips. The C would be better since it also supports 650 and 750MHz chips, but those require a different processors support module (PSM) for the higher speed CPUs (A5168A for 550 and A6689A for 650 or 750MHz).

You might be able to get a remarketed A6750AR with option 750 and 551, which will give you one 750MHz processor and a C version of the system board and one PSM. You would also need a PSM for every two CPUs beyond this (A6689AR). Note the "R" at the end is for remarketed as these items are no no longer in production. HP remarketed may or may not have any inventory to sell. You must check availability with HP.
