NEED TO CLUSTER JUST TWO rp5450's

Hello All,

I need to set up a cluster using the following hardware and i'm not sure if it will work properly. I'm also not sure exactly what software is needed other than Serviceguard?

2 x A5191B rp5450 Servers
4 x A6146A 550MHz CPU's - 2 in each 0
2 x A5796A PSM - 1 in each
4 x A5198A 1GB Memory kits - 2 in each
4 x A6110A 36GB 10K Disk - 2 in each
2 x A5557A DVD-ROM - 1 in each
HP-UX 11.11

Any help will be appreciated I can't get any help by call HP because although I am and Authorized HP reseller I am not yet qualified as an Enterprise reseller.

Thank you in advance,
Jim

Re: NEED TO CLUSTER JUST TWO rp5450's

You will need at least two NICs and a shared disk device in addition. And of course Serviceguard licenses.
Here are the docs http://docs.hp.com/en/ha.html#Serviceguard

But be aware it takes some more than some clicks and keystrokes to configure a cluster.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Hi,

I totally agree with the above reply, you need a shared storage and two NIC cards (to configure failover), since MC Service Gaurd is normally configured to make a system/application highly available it would be better to contact a professional from HP to do this activity rather tying to do R & D.

Configuring and Managing a MC Cluster is not as easy as thought :--), sincere advice is to take help from HP.

The above link should give you some information on SG

Re: NEED TO CLUSTER JUST TWO rp5450's

Hi Jim,

The answer depends on requirements for the system. If you need really production cluster and not a test configuration, so the needed HW configuration is:
1. An external disk storage with two SCSI/FC controllers
2. 4 NICs per computer ( 2 for main network and 2 for heartbeat )
3. Two SCSI or FC connectors per machine

If you need a test configuration, so you may have only one network connection per machine and ut's possible to use internal disks for shared device.

All these requirements are for Service Guard.
