Hi all,
i own an 9000/800/L1000-36 server with HP-UX 11.11 os. Today i connect the backup device a Surestore DAT40. When i try to read the contents of the tape i get the message ''can not open /dev/rmt/0m'' which i know is the default path for tape drives. I check in the server and found that there is no directory /rmt/0m inside dev directory.
I disconect the tape drive and plug it in an rp3410 server and i could succesfully read the contents of the tape.
Moreover i try to create the directory rmt and then copy the contents of /rmt (in the 3410) to the directory i create in the L1000 but with no success.
do u have any ideas on how to overcome this problem and succeed to read the contents of the tape in the L1000?
thank you
Andreas Andrikopoulos

Re: Problem with Backup device
Hi all,
thanx for your sugesstions. i manually create the dir rmt. Then i went on sam and scan for the peripheral devices. It found the tape drive and as magic the files inside rmt were there afterwards. i can now read the tape contents normally.
thank you for your help
