rp4440 scsi hookup

On a rp4440, I have my DDS3 tape drive hooked up to the external connector A on the Scsi card. I have the card in simplex mode so the tape drive is on the same channel as both root mirrored disks. Is this slowing the scsi bus down and if I move it to channel B do I need a terminator on channel A?

Re: rp4440 scsi hookup

The bus should run at the speed of the slowest device on the chain (DDS3).

Although you really dont need the terminator, you should always terminate the bus.

Re: rp4440 scsi hookup

I thought some HP scsi cards were self terminating. I don't know if this one (A6829A) is or not. So I should shut the system down and move the tape drive. Yes or No.

Re: rp4440 scsi hookup

Hi GSB,

Yes, current connection does slow down the SCSI channel throughtput and limit to DDS3 device speed. It is better to put the DDS3 drive on separate SCSI Channel B in your case.

A6829A has auto termination enable/disable jumper for both channels A & B. If it is enabled for channel A, then you won't need terminator.
