rp7410 and rp8400

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems using A6098A (4 gig kit) on a cell board with 650 procs on it.When I use these I get memory erors. When I use 2 gig kits it works fine.Is there a firmware issue with memory going into a rp 7410 or rp 8400?

Thank you in advance.

Re: rp7410 and rp8400

I believe the firmware on the cell board is 1700 I am not where the machine is now.I hope this helps ,in the meantime I will try to find that out.

Re: rp7410 and rp8400

Hi Jon,

Partsurfer shows that DIMM set is supported on the following rp7410 model numbers:
6752
7111
7112
7113
And the following rp8400 model numbers:
6093
6422
6423
6424
6425
That includes the 650MHz systems.
So I would think firmware is probably in play here. The current FW bundle version is 6.03 which includes PDC 17.008 & MP 4.020. It's available here:

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PF_CKEYMAT0603&context=firmware:cpu

Also you normally want the larger DIMMs in the lower numbered slots. AND if you have 2 cell boards you want to duplicate the DIMM layout on both cell boards for optimum performance.

Of course, you can't rule out bad DIMM(s). But make sure they're well seated

Jeff

Re: rp7410 and rp8400

Jeff,

Thanks for the info.Do you know if running 650 procs does it support A6098A (4 gig kits) I did not see this part number in your list.

Thanks

Re: rp7410 and rp8400

Hi Jon,

Yes the combination is possible according to partsurfer.hp.com

A6443-69001 HP PA-RISC processor - 650MHz PA-RISC 8700 with 2.25MB cache - Includes attached heat sink and processor socket
A6443-04001 New part for A6443-69001

A6098A
4GB high-density SyncDRAM DIMM (Set of four 1GB DIMMs)

Re: rp7410 and rp8400

Hi Jon,

Although I don't specifically see the model number for the earlier rp7410 with the 650 MHz CPUs, the 7111, 7112 & 7113 are *all* rp7405 models that *only* come with 650 MHz CPUs.
After all the 7405 is essentially an rp7410 available only with 650 CPUs and limited orderable configurations.

So I'd say that I'm fairly certain that with the proper FW version the board should support those DIMMs. But check with HP sales before you plunk down the $ just to be certain.

Rgds,
Jeff
