rp8400 CPUs
I've two rp8400 for 4 partitions.
Every partition have 4 processors.
I want to deactivate one processor for partition.
ICod command don't work, this is the outputs of commands:
#icod_stat
...
...
...
Local Hard Partition Information
--------------------------------
Total processors: 4
Active processors: 4
Global iCOD Information
-----------------------
iCOD cells: 0
iCOD processors: 0
iCOD Memory: 0.0 GB
And ,
#icod_modify -d 1
NOTE: This complex does not contain iCOD components. Refer to the icod(5)
manpage for more information about iCOD.
Can I deactivate CPU only by PDC (MA - CO - CPU )then reboot??
Can someone help me

Re: rp8400 CPUs
If you simply want to deconfigure a CPU, you do not need the icod stuff.
Reboot the partition and stopp the boot process to get to the BCH menu. Enter the Service menu and deconfigure the CPU with the "cpu" command. For example "cpu 1 off" to disable CPU #1. Then enter "reset" and after the reset, the CPU is deconfigured.
Best regards

Re: rp8400 CPUs
I can confirm Stefan's reply. One does indeed need the purchased iCOD product to do the dynamic CPU allocation/deallocation. I ran into the same thing & let HP know that they need to remove all documentation that states that iCOD is free. It's simply not true anymore.
And I want to clarify one thing in the procedure Stefan states in the deallocation from the BCH. Cell based systems need the cell # *and* the CPU # in the command. So for the 4th processor on the cell 0 board the command would be:
cpu 0 3 off
2nd CPU on cell 1 would be:
cpu 1 1 off
You generally want to deallocate the highest numbered CPU in the cell first & so forth.
HTH,
Jeff

Re: rp8400 CPUs
Yes, the procedure is the same, just "on" instead of "off" obviously :-)

Re: rp8400 CPUs
And I must deactivate a processor for partition.....Is it dangerous for OS and all applications that running on?!
Must I do others operation (on OS) after the servers boot?!

Re: rp8400 CPUs
Otherwise, why must I specify the cell in the CPU command?!
Thanks to all!!

Re: rp8400 CPUs
No. The Firmware prevents you from deactivation needed CPUs (1 CPU/Cell needed to run firmware code and OS).
>Must I do others operation (on OS) after the servers boot?!
No.
>For single rp8400, must I reboot every partition?!
No, only the partition you want to deconfigure a CPU needs a reboot.
>Or I can reboot only one for deactivate a cpu for partition?!?
yes
>Otherwise, why must I specify the cell in the CPU command?!
because the CPU command was designed to deconfigure dedicated CPUs, f.e. for troubleshooting purposes. => You must choose a dedicated CPU on a dedicated cell.
By the way, this leads to the question: Why do you want to deactivate a CPU ? Testing or troubleshooting ?
I hope, this answers your questions.
Best regards
Stefan

Re: rp8400 CPUs
There is a way to ONLINE deactivate CPU's with the online diagnostics expert tool, but this tool is password protected and can only be used by HP support. If you have a contract, contact your HP support, maybe they are able to help you, if you only want to make some performance tests.
