Status of D380

I have a question about a D380 HP-UX system. My understanding is that it has been out of support for a decade and the last OS was a 9.04
special just for the 300's. As far as HP is concerned, the box and the OS don't exist and you can't purchase anything (including
licenses) even if you wanted to. Is there a website I can check to confirm this status?
Thanks,

Re: Status of D380

First, I think there is some confusion on model numbers.

Is this an HP9000 D380 server or is it a Series 300 workstation? The difference is immense.

If it is a D380 server, then you can run HP-UX 11.11 on it and it is still supportable. It is expensive, but you can get support for it. Trust me, I know this from experience, especially the expensive part!

BUT, if it is a Series 300 workstation, then you are correct. It has been out of support for a long time.

If you have an OS on this machine, what does the 'model' command return?

Re: Status of D380

You could actually still buy a D-380 as late as '02. They will run either 32-bit or 64-bit HP-UX 11.11 -- which is the terminal version for them although no EISA card support is available for the 64-bit version. Support will no longer be available for them beyond the end of '07 but I still have a few of these old beasts that run just fine.

If you purchase one on the used-market, a license is supposed to be provided with them.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Status of D380

Here's a website for older hardware support: http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/operating/public_hp-ux_systems_support.pdf

The D380 is still available for hardware support through 2007 and software (11.11 ver 1) is good for many more years. Hardware (parts, etc) are readily (and inexpensively) available through 3rd party resellers.

You might find this link interesting - it gives support dates and OS versions

Re: Status of D380

Shalom Jeff,

The D380 left hardware support at the end of last year. I have one and its a very capable box, if I could afford the electricty to run the thing.

Its a dual cpu box that can run 11i v1, so several of your facts are incorrect.

Its an HP-9000/800 server.

Re: Status of D380

Jeff, I've got three of those, still running with (I believe) 64 bit 11i on them. They make great "test and destroy" servers for things like teaching new admins the ins and outs of lvm, security, networking, etc.

Re: Status of D380

Hi,

HP has recently extended the availability of hardware contract support to 31 Dec 2009 for select members of the HP 9000/Dxx series including the D380. I have a D380 in production and had to research/confirm hardware support with HP.

If you have a support contract in place get your HP support contact to 're-image' the contract.

Scott.
