two cpus with diff chip revision,it matters?

hi,i have a 5470 server with two cpus installed.i found that i the two cpus are with differernt chip revisions, there are some details:
Information Menu: Enter command > chiprevisions

Module Revision
------ --------
System Board A14323
PA 8700 CPU Module 2.3
PA 8700 CPU Module 3.1

Processor Speed Model Model/Op CVERSION State
--------- -------- -------- -------- -------- -------------
0 750 MHz 0x05df 0x0491 2. 3 Active
2 750 MHz 0x05df 0x0491 3. 1 Idle

Central Bus Speed (in MHz) : 133
Software ID (dec) : 185404640
Software ID (hex) : 0x0b0d0ce0
Software Capability : 0x01f1

now my server runs well, but i want to know it does matter or not? and i am puzzle that why the cpu 2's state is idle while cpu 0 is active?

thank you

Re: two cpus with diff chip revision,it matters?

As long as the CPUs are the same model (750MHz) everything is good.

The second CPU is idle, because it has nothing to do at the moment (OS not running yet).
The first is monarch.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Shalom,

I would not be comfy running a system like that. I've got extensive experience with the rp54xx line when I say that.

Have HP hardware come on in and either deal with this or give you something in writing that says it doesn't matter.

That status screen is probably not very meaningful, the CPU is most certainly there and working when the system is running the OS .

there's no issue running with different revision. both cpu are PA8700 and the speed are the same.

Re: two cpus with diff chip revision,it matters?

hi,

Ive seen this many times and never had any issues with it.

even from the PA8500 and 8600's aswell, they run fine with diferrrent revision cpu's.

I bet they all have the same start part number aswell, but the lower revision will be -04001 and the newer -04002 probably.

As torsten said, you are only at PDC so running only on one cpu at the moment. Boot into HPUX and you will start to use both.
