Upgrade r5450 with CPU and RAM: possible problems?

Dear all,

I would like upgrade one of our customer's L2000 Server.
This server has 3 CPU's and 2GB of SyncD RAM.
I will make an upgrade to 4 CPU's and additionally 3GB(3 kits of 1GB)of RAM.
I've done this never before by a HP-UX Server.

What are the possible problems by this procedure? I mean only failures in the operatings-system(HP-UX 11).
Must I admit the components in the OS or so?

Thank you for your answers in advance

Hi,

just add a CPU of the same kind in the empty slot.
Read the documentation about memory load order, see

http://docs.hp.com/en/A5191-96022/index.html

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Upgrade r5450 with CPU and RAM: possible problems?

Hi Torsten,

thank you for your fast answer.

I've read this documentation hours before.
I think the physical work isn't a problem for me. But what does HP-UX OS after the upgrade:-)

In this documentation I've read the following sentence:

Use the BCH command in me to verify the system recognizes the memory that you have just added.

What does this mean? What is "me"?

Thank for an answer again

Re: Upgrade r5450 with CPU and RAM: possible problems?

The OS will just recognize the new number of CPUs and RAM - no action needed.

About the verification:

Stop the booting process at the boot console handler (BCH and run "information memory" ("in me" for short).

example:

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > in me

MEMORY INFORMATION

MEMORY STATUS TABLE (MB) (Current Boot Status)

Carrier->0 Installed 1 Not installed

Slot 0a 1024M Active -
Slot 0b 1024M Active -
Slot 1a 512M Active -
Slot 1b 512M Active -

Slot 2a 512M Active -
Slot 2b 512M Active -
Slot 3a - -
Slot 3b - -

Subtotal 4096M 0

TOTAL = 4096 MB
---------

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
