Correct STP and LACP setup for Trunks
Hi,
I have a small network with 1 Procurve 3500yl-48G as the main switch, and 2 Procurve 2810-48G switches as edge switches. They are connected via 2 trunks. I am seeing large amounts of retransmits while capturing packets. I think I may be seeing a STP loop due to incorrect STP settings. I am not very familiar with Procurve switches so I need a little bit of help with my setup. What are the correct settings and commands for STP and LACP on the trunks? I can post my configs if you would like.
Thanks in advanced

Re: Correct STP and LACP setup for Trunks
Hi, you should elect 1 primary root and secondary root for your network, usually, thr primary root is your core and the secondary is your mdf, for the link-aggregate, I normally used manual link-aggregation, so the the laink-aggregate group is already ampped on the port/s. Please send your config so I can check what should be done

Re: Correct STP and LACP setup for Trunks
Hi,
Firstly try this :
=3500=
spanning-tree force-version rstp-operation (it is compatible with old version like stp-compatible switchs)
spanning-tree priority 0 (this is the root switch)
no spanning-tree legacy-path-cost (if legacy-path-cost is not use for backward compatibility)
=-2810 - 1=
spanning-tree force-version rstp-operation (it is compatible with old version like stp-compatible switchs)
no spanning-tree legacy-path-cost (if legacy-path-cost is not use for backward compatibility)
=-2810 - 2=
spanning-tree force-version rstp-operation (it is compatible with old version like stp-compatible switchs)
no spanning-tree legacy-path-cost (if legacy-path-cost is not use for backward compatibility)
Bye.

Re: Correct STP and LACP setup for Trunks
Helper,
Thank you for your help. I adjusted the settings and will let it run for a few days to see what happens.
One question I have, I am getting CRC/Alignment Errors on a few of my ports. Could this cause these errors I am seeing?

Re: Correct STP and LACP setup for Trunks
Hi,
In reply to your secondary question, it shouldn't. Take a look to the RMON Ethernet statistics, interface statistics or RMON Ethernet Error statistics to check for a wire issue, speed-duplex mismatch, bad NIC, drivers issue etc.
Bye.

Re: Correct STP and LACP setup for Trunks
Hi,
3 year later.... but still..
use for your trunks:
trunk 47-48 Trk1 LACP
trunk 45-46 Trk2 LACP
same on your edge switches ...
Also add flow-control to those interfaces.
Kind regards,
Jan

Re: Correct STP and LACP setup for Trunks
Jan,
Out of curiosity, why add flow control to these interfaces?
Thansk,
