HP Stacking question

I have a few sets of HP ProCurve PoE switches that are stacked in pairs. I have a third switch that I need to add to three of these stacks. I got all the modules installed and have all the stack cables ready. I am familiar with Cisco StackWise but not the HP stacking tech. So right now I have a stack cable going from stack port 1 to stack port 1 on the second switch. I want a fully redundant setup, so each switch has two stack modules. My question is, how to I cable in the third switch and make everything fully redundant? Can I plug the stack cables in live? I was able to put the modules in live, I think I just have to reboot the stack for it to recogize it. I have been looking for documentation on how to place the cables and do the configuration, no luck... Thanks in advance.

Re: HP Stacking question

What model Procurve are they?

The only Procurve model that stacks is the 3800.

Re: HP Stacking question

They def stack... I have them stacked in two's right now, just need to add a third. They are ProCurve 2910al-48g PoE. I have the stack modules installed and have the stack cables. I just need to know how to cable the stack cables.

Re: HP Stacking question

I am taking from that that your 2910s have modules with CX4 connectors, which is why you are thinking "stackwise".

These aren't "stack modules", so just use these switch interfaces like any other ethernet ports, except you can only patch locally (<15 metres, I think), and not many other devices in your server room will have compatible interfaces(!).

Re: HP Stacking question

Okay. I attached a picture of the module that I have installed in both open slots of each switch. Currently the two switches that are connected are running from port 1 to port 1 on the second switch. If I introduce a third switch into the mix, how would I cable this switch? Would you be able to explain to me the difference between this and Cisco StackWise? I also included a snipet of the CLI where it shows the commander and the member.

Re: HP Stacking question

It's just an Ethernet port. Cable it any way you want, it doesn't matter because there isn't any real stacking going on.
All the "stacking" in the config means is a shared IP for management.
